Five Claw promotes Anti-bullying Behaviour
Don’t let you child become a victim of bullying.
Bullying can be extremely serious. Bullying can affect the mental well being, academic work, and physical health of children who are targeted. Children who are bullied are more likely than other children to have lower self-esteem; and higher rates of depression, loneliness, anxiety, and suicidal thoughts. They also are more likely to want to avoid attending school and have higher school absenteeism rates. Recent research on the health related effects of bullying indicates that victims of frequent bullying are more likely to experience headaches, sleeping problems, and stomach ailments. Some emotional scars can be long-lasting. Research suggests that adults who were bullied as children are more likely than their non-bullied peers to be depressed and have low self-esteem as adults.”

At Five Claw, we don't tolerate bullying.
We ask our students to take the Anti-Bully Pledge and have participated in many Anti-Bully Workshops with our local schools.
Bullying is a common but serious problem that affects children and youth. It can involve physical, or verbal acts of aggression, as well as acts of social isolation. A bully will usually target weaker children or children without strong peer support.
What can you do to help?
There are many best practice strategies for schools and communities to address this problem. But if your school is not able to protect your child, you may need to give him or her better skills.
Martial arts classes may help your child in the following ways:
- Increase self esteem
- Bullies usually target children they see as weaker than themselves. As your child's confidence and self-seteem increases, he or she is less likely to be chosen as a target of bullying.
- Increase physical confidence
- A bully may test a potential target. If you child appears physically confident in a confrontation, the bully will seek an easier victim.
- Increase social skills
- If your child learns social skills, he is less likely to be singled out as a lonely target.
- Learn respect for self and others
- As your child gains strength and skills in an environment that enforces respect for fellow student, instructors, and family, he or she learns that respecting others leads to positive outcomes. This encourages your child to not participate in bullying behaviour.
